WASHINGTON PAEDOPHILE GLEN BARWICK CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND DRUGS NEAR HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Washington, a local man named Glen Barwick has been convicted and sentenced for his involvement in accessing and possessing indecent images of children, alongside other criminal activities. The incident dates back to 2017, when Barwick, who was employed as a concierge in a building situated in the heart of Newcastle city centre, was found to have spent extensive hours viewing and downloading illicit material during his working hours.
Barwick, aged 42 and residing on Waterloo Walk in Washington, was initially discovered to be in possession of a significant collection of indecent images and extreme pornography.
His illegal activities extended beyond just viewing; he was also found to have four kilograms of cannabis and an imitation firearm hidden within the premises.
The police investigation was triggered when officers from the Force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received intelligence about the nature of the files being downloaded at the building where Barwick worked.
As the only individual with full access to the building, Barwick quickly became the prime suspect.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of the premises, which is located near the High Level Bridge, and uncovered his hidden stash of cannabis concealed in a store cupboard alongside the imitation firearm.
Following this discovery, Barwick was arrested and released under investigation while law enforcement officials examined his electronic devices and gathered evidence to build a comprehensive case against him.
Despite the initial setback, Barwick’s criminal behavior did not cease.
In April 2020, police officers received further information indicating that he was once again involved in downloading and sharing indecent images.
Detectives moved swiftly to arrest him, but Barwick, aware of the impending arrest, attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot through Queens Lane.
A brief but intense pursuit ensued, culminating in his apprehension after a struggle.
During the arrest, officers seized another mobile phone from his possession.
Although Barwick refused to provide the passcode for his phone, forensic experts were able to unlock the device, revealing an additional 180 indecent images of children.
The case culminated on Friday, January 8, when Barwick appeared before Newcastle Crown Court.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of possessing extreme pornography, and possession of cannabis.
The court sentenced him to a total of nine months in prison, marking a significant step in addressing the serious nature of his crimes and the threat he posed to the community.
