GINA BROWN FROM ERDINGTON SENTENCED AFTER RUNNING OVER EX-BOYFRIEND IN REVENGE
Gina Brown, a woman residing in Erdington, has been found guilty of causing serious harm to her former partner in a calculated act of revenge. The incident took place on Reservoir Road on October 8, 2021, when Brown, driving her Volkswagen T-Roc, deliberately mounted the curb and struck her ex-boyfriend with her vehicle. The collision was so forceful that the victim was propelled into the air, suffering severe injuries that included a significant brain injury and multiple fractured ribs. Initially, his condition was deemed life-threatening, highlighting the gravity of the attack.Brown's trial at Birmingham Crown Court revealed a complex background of ongoing abuse and control exerted by the victim over her. Despite the violent nature of the incident, she was acquitted of attempted murder but was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. On June 16, she received a sentence of four years in prison for her actions.
At the time of the assault, Brown and her ex-partner had been living separately, but her history of emotional and physical abuse was a significant factor in the case. She had been held on remand for 20 months and was informed that she could soon be released to serve the remaining part of her sentence on licence. This news elicited emotional reactions from her supporters, who believed her actions were driven by a history of prolonged violence and mental health struggles, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The court acknowledged her as a valued member of society but emphasized that her use of a highly dangerous vehicle as a weapon in her act of revenge was a serious offense. The judge took into account her mental health issues and the abusive background, but also underscored the severity and recklessness of her actions, which resulted in life-altering injuries for her victim.
