MAN CAUGHT ON HIDDEN CAMERA ABUSING TEENAGE GIRL FACES JAIL
A sex predator was caught after his ex-partner installed a hidden camera to expose his abusive behavior towards a teenage girl.
Gerard Haggerty, aged 61, committed serious offenses including raping and engaging in sexual activities with the girl, starting from when she was only 12 years old.
The ex-partner, suspecting inappropriate conduct, helped set up a camera in their shared home in Elgin, which captured footage of Haggerty exposing himself in front of the teenager.
The footage led to police involvement and Haggerty’s subsequent guilty plea to charges of rape and sexual activity with a child, which will likely result in a lengthy prison sentence.
The High Court in Glasgow was told how Haggerty preyed on the girl regularly between July 2018 and summer 2020.
Despite Haggerty's insistence on his innocence and claims of being 'in love' with the girl, the court remanded him in custody, with sentencing deferred for reports.
