HORRIFIC AVONMOUTH MURDER: FAMILY DEVASTATED AS FATHER IS JAILED FOR LIFE
George Worgan, who was responsible for killing Kelly Worgan, changed his plea to guilty unexpectedly during his 2019 trial, resulting in a life sentence.Kelly was found lifeless in their living room with ligature marks on her neck, and her body was collapsed on the floor.
The murder took place in November 2018 in Avonmouth near Bristol.
Initially, police investigated him for unrelated crimes such as petrol theft and reckless driving, but they soon connected him to Kelly’s homicide.
The investigation uncovered that Kelly endured a violent and controlling relationship with George, who had previously been seen by their children strangling her.
Her family described Kelly as a mother who appeared happy but was trapped inside.
Her father, Paul, recalled discovering George's suspicion, saying, “After that phone call, my wife was very upset and went upstairs crying, and I collapsed on the floor, crying uncontrollably.” Following Kelly’s death, her parents gained custody of her children and shared their grief, calling their family’s situation a “living nightmare.” Kelly’s sister, Hannah, noted early warnings, including George’s intense involvement during visits, followed by his attempts to isolate Kelly and discourage family contact.
Injuries Kelly sustained during her relationship, documented through medical records after her death, indicated ongoing physical abuse.
She also bore older bruises, and her children reported witnessing George choking their mother on multiple occasions.
During court proceedings, Worgan claimed he was innocent and could not recall the events of that day, yet testimonies and evidence resulted in his conviction.
The family expressed deep sorrow, with Kelly’s father saying, “I still feel like I’m living a nightmare and it’s never going to end.
I regret handing my daughter to a murderer.”
