MAN JAILED FOR 22 YEARS FOR RAPE
A violent and sadistic rapist received a prison term of 22 years along with an additional three years on license from a judge at Bradford Crown Court.George Wild, aged 28, from South Street in Keighley, was responsible for attacking multiple victims.
Although he was convicted by a jury following a trial, Wild chose not to appear in court for sentencing, instead remaining in his cell at HMP Leeds.
Her Honour Judge Sophie McKone sentenced him in his absence, describing him as a dangerous individual who posed a threat to the public.
She stated: "Your preoccupation with sex led you to take what you wanted, causing significant psychological trauma to your victims." The judge added, "In my opinion, a sentence exceeding 20 years is justified in this case." The court was told that Wild was convicted of several rapes and sexual assaults.
One victim developed post-traumatic stress disorder.
His conduct was notably extreme; he strangled one victim and demanded that she urinate in his mouth and defecate on him.
He was also accused of humiliating her and coercing her into another sex act described as "sadistic." During mitigation, it was noted that Wild had a difficult early life, had used drugs, and continued to deny committing the crimes.
The court was asked to consider reducing the finding of dangerousness and to avoid imposing an extended or life sentence.
Judge McKone sentenced Wild to 22 years for each of the rape counts, to be served concurrently, and three months for sexual assault, also concurrent.
An additional three-year term on license was added.
The judge explained her reasoning: "I must consider if a standard 22-year sentence suffices.
Given the risk you pose, such a sentence does not fully address the threat you represent now or in the future." Despite the seriousness of the offences, she chose not to impose a discretionary life sentence but ordered an extended sentence to help protect the public.
Wild is also required to register as a sex offender for life.
He will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for potential release.
