HELENSBURGH MAN ACCUSED OF MULTIPLE SEXUAL ABUSE CHARGES ON YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN
George Murray, a 60-year-old man from Helensburgh, is currently on trial at the High Court in Glasgow, accused of multiple counts of sexual abuse and misconduct.The allegations include sexually abusing a girl aged between 8 and 15 at his residence, with incidents purportedly occurring from 2002 to 2008.
Additionally, he faces accusations of interfering with a girl aged 10 or 11 and sexually assaulting two women by rubbing their private parts over their clothes.
The prosecution claims these events took place at his home, but Murray denies all charges.
Previously, he was accused of rape; however, that part of the case was dismissed by the Crown.
During the trial, the father of one alleged victim provided evidence, questioning the paternity of the girl, and stated he was unsure if he was her biological father.
The father mentioned, "I’m not 100 per cent sure about paternity.
It’s up for debate whether she’s my daughter or not.
I always had a strange feeling from day one," and added that he was a teenager when the girl’s mother became pregnant.
He also said he never saw Murray behave inappropriately with the victims or others.
Murray’s wife, Julie Murray, 55, testified that she was devastated by the allegations but did not believe her husband was guilty, claiming she was shocked and had not discussed the accusations with him.
Murray’s daughter also testified, stating she had not seen her father act improperly and heard one of the victims scream she was raped when intoxicated but did not specify who the perpetrator was.
The trial continues under Judge Lord Ritchie QC, with Murray maintaining his innocence.
