ALEXANDRIA SEX OFFENDER FINED FOR FAILING TO UPDATE POLICE ADDRESS
George McMartin was in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week after failing to comply with the rules under sexual offences legislation. The 27-year-old, of Mitchell Way in Alexandria, admitted breaching the terms of the rules surrounding sexual offenders for failing to let police know he had a new address on October 12 last year.
McMartin’s defence lawyer Brian McGuire told the court that his client is a single man who is living in a homeless unit.
He said: “He was released from custody on October 1, 2010, and was assigned an address in Alexandria.” The court heard how he had been given this address temporarily, which he informed police about, and was later moved to another property.
The lawyer told the court that police officers were aware of where he was staying as they had been visiting McMartin on a regular basis in line with the terms of his release.
Despite this, he required to notify police in Dumbarton of this change of address, but didn’t have the money to travel to Dumbarton due to a disruption with his benefits payment.
Once he received money he went to Dumbarton police station and was subsequently charged.
Sheriff Bill Dunlop fined him £200.
