ALEXANDRIA SEX ATTACKER GETS ANOTHER CHANCE IN COMMUNITY
A MAN who sexually assaulted a drunk woman has been given another chance to be treated in the community.John Taylor previously admitted to the incident that happened at a property in Alexandria almost five years ago.
The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the woman while she was intoxicated and carrying out a sex act on September 8, 2020.
He was sentenced in June 2024 to a community payback order (CPO) including unpaid hours of work and social work supervision.
But he failed to do what was ordered and got locked up to await resentencing.
He appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on April 29.
Sheriff James Mulgrew noted Taylor had been in custody for a couple of months awaiting sentencing.
He had a limited criminal record but questions about his living arrangements.
Defence solicitor Scott Adair mentioned Taylor had an address in Shotts, with previous records listing an address in Mafekind Street, Wishaw.
Taylor was asked to travel to Wishaw for social work meetings and unpaid work, but a new arrangement was made to reduce the journeys.
Adair said Taylor's mental health had declined but his time in custody allowed him to detoxify.
Sheriff Mulgrew reminded that Taylor was on a CPO for a serious offence which had not gone well, but engagement could lead to better outcomes.
Taylor was placed on a new CPO with supervision for two years, 200 hours of unpaid work to be completed within a year, and a review scheduled for May 23.
His sex offenders register requirement was reimposed for two years.
