GEDIMINAS JASINSKAS SENTENCED TO MINIMUM 20 YEARS IN KING'S LYNN FOR MURDER OF EX-GIRLFRIEND

In January 2019, a man identified as Gediminas Jasinskas was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the brutal murder of his former girlfriend in King's Lynn.

Jasinskas, 30, from King's Lynn, carried out a 'brutal and sustained' attack on Cristina Magda-Calancea, whom he had previously dated.

On September 21, he concealed himself in her garage while waiting for her to finish work.

When she arrived, he stabbed her 25 times.

Norwich Crown Court was told that Jasinskas was jealous after Ms Magda-Calancea contacted another man.

The judge, Stephen Holt, who sentenced Jasinskas to life imprisonment, dismissed claims that the killing was a 'moment of passion.' He emphasized that Jasinskas, who had pleaded guilty to murder the previous month, was armed with an 8-inch kitchen knife at the time.

"This was a brutal and sustained attack over a period of two minutes with a knife on a defenceless woman," Judge Holt stated.

"I have no doubt that you intended to kill when you inflicted those wounds." The relationship between Jasinskas and Ms Magda-Calancea began in August 2016 but ended in July 2018.

The prosecutor, Peter Gair, described Jasinskas as "a jealous man who would become aggressive if he felt any other man was showing an interest in Cristina." During a holiday to Bali, Ms Magda-Calancea, 26, confided in her brother Razvan Milea that Jasinskas was "eating my life...

he doesn't leave me alone." After their separation, Jasinskas sent her a text message stating, "I cannot live without you.

Wherever you go, I will find you." On the day of the murder, Jasinskas left his cleaning shift early and took a taxi to Ms Magda-Calancea's home on Fenland Road in King's Lynn.

There, he hid in the garage.

When she came to put her bike away shortly after 10 pm, Jasinskas attacked her with the knife, stabbing her in the neck, chest, abdomen, and groin.

Ms Magda-Calancea, a Romanian national, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following morning.

Less than an hour after the attack, Jasinskas admitted to paramedics that he was responsible, telling police that he had 'lost control.'
