GAVIN MCPHEE FROM STIRLING SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN SCOTLAND

Gavin McPhee, a 35-year-old man from Stirling, has been handed down a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple counts of domestic abuse involving two women, Naomi Maguire and Sarah Burns. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of violence and control that spanned several years, culminating in a total sentence of seven years behind bars.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson described McPhee as a "controlling bully" during the sentencing. The court heard harrowing details of the abuse inflicted upon Naomi Maguire, who was just 18 at the time. McPhee subjected her to nearly three and a half years of relentless physical violence, which included assaults with a knife and dangerous acts that posed a risk to her life. The evidence presented painted a picture of a man who used intimidation and brutality to dominate his partner.

One of the most alarming incidents involved McPhee ramming Naomi with his Ford Fiesta in a wooded area near Stirling. During this attack, he punched, kicked, and seized her by the throat, leaving her with severe injuries. Naomi recounted her terrifying experience, stating, "I thought I was going to die." She also described an incident where McPhee attempted to force himself on her in the woods, which escalated into a brutal assault where he repeatedly punched and kicked her. Naomi was left stranded in the woods at night, without her phone, until help arrived. On another occasion, McPhee physically assaulted her inside a vehicle, punching her in the face. Their relationship ended in April 2017 after Naomi managed to escape when he slashed her arms with a kitchen knife.

Regarding his previous partner, Sarah Burns, who is now pregnant with McPhee’s child, she provided testimony about the violence she endured. She described being grabbed by the throat, pushed against a cupboard, and punched during various incidents. Despite denying all charges, McPhee claimed he treated Naomi like a "princess," though his lawyer acknowledged that he struggled with jealousy and impulsivity.

Following the sentencing, law enforcement officials reiterated their dedication to tackling domestic abuse cases and encouraged victims to come forward. McPhee was also subject to a non-harassment order, and he showed no visible emotion as he was taken into custody. The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Stirling and the importance of supporting victims to seek justice and safety.
