GARY SEAL FROM FERRYHILL SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Ferryhill, County Durham, Gary Seal has been sentenced to five years in prison following his conviction for indecently assaulting a young girl. The incident, which occurred over a decade ago, came to light after the victim confided in a relative in November 2011 about the abuse she endured years earlier.Seal, aged 30 and residing on Rydal Road in Ferryhill, was taken into custody after the victim’s revelation. Throughout the legal proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all charges brought against him. Initially, he faced a total of nine allegations, which he contested during his interview and in court. The case was heard at Durham Crown Court last November, where Seal was accused of multiple serious offenses.
As the case progressed through adjournments, the charges were reduced to an eight-count indictment. The trial commenced last month, during which Seal faced accusations including three counts of indecent assault, one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and four counts of sexual activity with a child. Seal vehemently denied the charges, asserting his innocence throughout the proceedings.
After deliberation, the jury found Seal guilty of three counts of indecent assault. However, they acquitted him of the remaining five charges, including the counts related to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual activity with a child. The verdict was delivered after a thorough trial, with the jury’s decision reflecting their belief in the victim’s testimony.
Sentencing was postponed until May 17, when Judge Christopher Prince handed down the prison term. In his remarks, the judge emphasized the severity of the crime and its impact on the victim. He stated, “The victim gave a very clear statement as to what you had done, but, you called her a liar. The jury didn’t believe you and convicted you of three counts. They found her to be truthful. The impact on the victim has been most averse and grave.”
Seal’s conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse, and the case has left a lasting impression on the Ferryhill community and beyond.
