GARY HUGHES FROM BIGGLESWADE ADMITS TO DOWNLOADING OVER A THOUSAND INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN

In a serious case brought before Luton Crown Court, Gary Hughes, a 50-year-old resident of Biggleswade, has admitted to the possession and downloading of a significant number of indecent images depicting children.

The incident came to light in May of the previous year when police executed a search warrant at Hughes's residence on Laburnham Road, leading to the seizure of his personal laptop.

During the court proceedings on Thursday, December 18, prosecutor Graham Smith detailed the findings of the police investigation.

He explained that authorities had received information prompting the warrant, which resulted in the discovery of a total of 1,130 images stored on Hughes's device.

Of these, 1,102 images were classified as Category C, indicating the least severe level of indecency.

The remaining images were distributed between Category A and B, which denote more serious content.

Hughes, who was present in court, pleaded guilty to the charge of making and downloading indecent photographs of a child, with the act having occurred on or before May 21 of the previous year.

His legal representative, Stuart Sprawson, requested that the sentencing be postponed to allow for a probation report to be prepared.

He emphasized that most of the images involved were in the lowest category, which could influence the severity of the sentence.

Mr.

Sprawson also highlighted that Hughes was fully aware of his legal obligations, including the requirement to register as a sex offender.

Additionally, Hughes was under a current bail condition that prohibited him from having any contact with individuals under the age of 18.

Judge Stuart Bridge agreed to adjourn the sentencing hearing to the week beginning February 2.

He also mandated that Hughes cooperate fully with the probation officer assigned to prepare his report, which would be a key factor in determining the final sentence.

The judge made it clear that all sentencing options remained open, indicating the seriousness with which the court was treating the case and the potential for a range of penalties depending on the findings of the probation report.
