A man from Biggleswade has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of both verbal and physical abuse against a woman.

Tommy Heathcote, aged 39, also exhibited controlling and coercive behaviors toward the victim, according to court findings.

In her victim impact statement, she described how her confidence has been diminished by Heathcote’s actions.

She stated: “Tommy would belittle me and constantly bully me into doing whatever he wanted.

I feel like he has taken away my confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth.” Heathcote, residing on Anne Street in Biggleswade, was previously found guilty during a court hearing in March on multiple criminal charges, including coercive and controlling conduct.

On Friday, July 25th, he was sentenced to seven years in prison, with an additional four-year extended license period owing to the seriousness of his offences.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period and issued an indefinite restraining order.

Cema Miah, an investigating officer from Bedfordshire Police’s Emerald team, commented: “I’m glad Heathcote received a custodial sentence considering the significant distress and fear he inflicted on his victim through his violent behavior.”
