In March 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Gary Hayden, a bus driver from Yate, who was found to have engaged in explicit online conversations with minors. The incident came to light after Hayden was caught in a sting operation where he believed he was communicating with underage girls, aged 14, 13, and 11, but in reality, he was speaking to decoys set up by paedophile hunters.Hayden, aged 42 and residing in Deerhurst, Yate, admitted to three charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. These offenses all took place during the previous year, and the court proceedings revealed the extent of his online activities. Bristol Crown Court heard that Hayden had initiated conversations with individuals he thought were young girls, making lewd comments and sending explicit images.
