STALKER HAD ILLEGAL SEX WITH GIRL AND TORMENTED EX
A man aged 34 has received an eight-year prison sentence after engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl aged 15 and following her attacks with harassment and stalking.The case was heard at Newcastle Crown Court where it was revealed that Gary Froggatt assaulted the young girl and later subjected a former partner to ongoing abuse and threats.
During his detention, Froggatt also sent a woman death threats, which were intercepted by correctional staff.
He pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual relations with a minor, stalking, and assault, and was convicted of making threats to kill and malicious communications.
Froggatt, living on Brighton Close in Wallsend, was aware of the girl’s age when they engaged in sexual activity between December 2021 and January 2022.
At that time, he was under a 16-month suspended sentence for injuring a woman by fracturing her cheekbone.
In early 2023, Froggatt began a relationship that ended after three months due to his unstable behaviour.
Following the breakup, he repeatedly entered her home uninvited, shouted abuse, and performed threatening gestures such as running his finger across his throat and pointing a shovel at her in a menacing manner.
On one occasion, he entered her home while she was asleep and assaulted her, hitting her head with a jar used to store cannabis.
The victim was advised to seek medical care by her doctor but refused, fearing Froggatt's retaliation.
He also allegedly told her he would serve jail time for killing her.
Once the abuse was reported, Froggatt was arrested and placed in custody.
While incarcerated, he wrote a detailed letter filled with death threats and insults, which prison officials intercepted before it could be delivered.
The judge noted that the woman had tried to distance herself from Froggatt due to her fear.
Addressing Froggatt, Judge Sarah Mallett highlighted his dangerous behaviour and the risk he posed to children and vulnerable individuals.
She commented that he seemed to perceive himself as a dominant figure and sought to gain recognition.
Froggatt is now required to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely and adhere to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts contact with minors.
