MAN WHO BLACKMAILED TEEN GIRLS INTO SENDING EXPLICIT SNAPCHAT IMAGES JAILED
A man who exploited Snapchat to manipulate teenage girls into sending explicit photos and videos has been sentenced to a decade in prison.Callum Ward, aged 22, received his sentence at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday for a series of heinous crimes that began in January 2018.
Living on Sydney Grove in Wallsend, Ward targeted victims through social media platforms, pressuring them to send explicit images while distributing videos of himself masturbating.
The court was informed that Ward would then threaten the girls if they refused, claiming he knew their home addresses.
Three out of four victims succumbed to his demands.
After obtaining their images, Ward warned that he would upload everything he received if they ceased communication.
His initial offenses, committed between January and November 2018, involved two girls aged 13 and 14.
He was eventually apprehended after a brave 13-year-old girl reported his behavior to Snapchat, leading to his arrest by the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT).
Digital forensics uncovered additional victims and disturbing images of children and animals.
Although released on bail with an interim sexual risk order, Ward reoffended in May and June of the following year, blackmailing two other 14-year-old girls—one did not send any images, while the other felt coerced.
Police intervened once more, arresting him, and he pleaded guilty in October 2019.
Ward faced multiple charges, including blackmail, inciting sexual acts involving minors, producing indecent images of children, possessing extreme pornography, and breaching his sexual risk order.
He was sentenced to ten years in prison, and Judge Julie Clemitson mandated that Ward also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
