GARY BRODIE'S BRUTAL STIRLING ASSAULT LEADS TO PRISON SENTENCE

In a case that has shocked the Stirling community, Gary Brodie has been sentenced to prison following a violent and sustained assault on his former partner, Laura Keir. The incident took place in Stirling at approximately 1:15 am on November 26 of the previous year, marking a night of terror for the victim.

According to court reports, Brodie, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, forcibly entered Keir’s home after demanding her mobile phones. His aggressive behavior escalated quickly as he began punching her repeatedly, causing her significant physical injuries. Despite her efforts to escape upstairs, Brodie followed her, forcing his way into the bedroom even though there was no lock on the door. The attack intensified inside the room, with Brodie continuing his assault and leaving Keir fearing for her life. During this brutal episode, Brodie threatened her, stating, “I’m going to f****** kill you,” a chilling remark that underscored the severity of the attack.

In a further act of violence, Brodie descended to the kitchen and retrieved a kitchen knife, wielding it as a weapon against Keir. She managed to wrestle the knife away from him and threw it onto the worktop, preventing further harm. The assault resulted in multiple injuries, including a haemorrhage to her eye, bruising, a burst lip, cuts, and marks consistent with strangulation. The injuries were serious enough to warrant medical attention and were detailed during the court proceedings.

Prior to this incident, Brodie had already pleaded guilty to assault causing injury, which was taken into account during sentencing. At Stirling Sheriff Court, he was sentenced to two years in prison, a reduction from an initial 30 months due to his guilty plea. The court also imposed a 12-month supervised release order and a non-harassment order, which prohibits Brodie from contacting Keir or attending certain locations to prevent further incidents.

The court highlighted the gravity of Brodie’s actions, emphasizing that the attack was both serious and prolonged. The judge pointed out Brodie’s extensive criminal record, including a lengthy previous sentence, which contributed to the decision to impose a custodial sentence. Brodie’s legal representative expressed remorse and requested consideration of alternatives to imprisonment, citing his role as a family man and his efforts to rebuild his life after past incarcerations. However, the judge maintained that the nature of the assault warranted a custodial sentence, reflecting the community’s need for safety and justice.
