GARETH WILLIAMS FROM CARMARTHEN AND LLANDEILO CAUGHT IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the local communities of Carmarthen and Llandeilo, Gareth Williams, a man with a long history of sexual offenses against children, was recently apprehended for viewing indecent images of minors on a public library computer. The case was brought before Swansea Crown Court, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior that has persisted despite his previous convictions and ongoing supervision.

Williams, who resides at Maes Elfryn in Llandeilo, is already serving a life-long post-custodial licence following his 2008 conviction for filming himself raping a four-year-old girl and sharing the illicit video with other paedophiles online. His criminal record is marked by heinous acts that have led to his classification as a high-risk offender. Despite this, he was found to be attempting to access indecent material again, this time in November of the previous year, at Llandeilo Library.

The court heard that Williams was deliberately trying to circumvent the strict controls and monitoring measures that had been put in place following his release from prison in 2015. He was observed using a social media platform, Twitter, on a library computer to view an indecent image of a young girl, similar in age to the victim he had previously abused. This act of accessing such material was considered a breach of his license conditions and a serious violation of public safety.

Williams, who appeared in custody to face the charges, pleaded guilty to possessing an indecent image of a child. The court was informed that he had been recalled to prison following his arrest for this offense. Judge Paul Thomas QC emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that Williams was on a life-long licence precisely because authorities viewed him as a continuing danger due to his paedophiliac tendencies. The judge remarked, “You remain besotted by the idea of sex with young children,” underscoring the ongoing threat he poses.

As a result of his guilty plea, Williams was sentenced to five months in prison. Additionally, he remains on the sex offenders register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities to protect the public from further harm.

In a related case from November 2008, Gareth Williams from Carmarthen was also involved in a serious criminal matter. He was a former employee at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, working as an operating department practitioner. Williams was convicted of raping a girl under the age of 13 and was subsequently jailed for five and a half years. His crimes also included making and distributing indecent photographs of children, with multiple counts of possession and creation of such material.

The Health Professions Council (HPC) conducted a conduct committee hearing in Cardiff, during which Williams was formally struck off the medical register, effectively banning him from practicing in healthcare or working with children. Williams, who was absent from the hearing, had sent a letter requesting to be removed from the register and expressed a desire not to be contacted again. The HPC panel, after careful consideration, determined that his actions were of such a serious nature that only a striking-off order would suffice to protect the public and uphold professional standards. The panel’s decision was supported by the fact that Williams had admitted to multiple offenses, including the rape of a minor and possession of indecent images, which demonstrated a clear risk to society.

These cases highlight the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing individuals with a history of sexual offenses against children, especially those who continue to pose a threat even after serving prison sentences.
