DANIEL GRAVELL SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND VOYEURISM IN CARMARTHEN

A man named Daniel Gravell has been formally convicted of a serious sexual offense that has left a lasting impact on his victims. The incident in question took place in Carmarthen in 2002, where Gravell, then 19 years old, was found guilty of raping a young woman. The court proceedings revealed the gravity of the crime, which has haunted the victim for years. Gravell, now aged 43, was handed a prison sentence of nine years for the rape, reflecting the severity with which the court viewed his actions.

In addition to the conviction for rape, Gravell admitted to committing voyeurism against another woman in 2021. This involved secretly taking explicit photographs of her inside her own home without her consent, an act that further exemplifies his pattern of predatory behavior. The court heard how Gravell's actions caused profound distress and a sense of violation for the women involved.

The sentencing hearing took place at Swansea Crown Court, where Judge Geraint Walters addressed the court and the victims. He emphasized the lifelong scars that such crimes can leave, stating, “The offence of rape, and the violation which is needed to commit such an offence, is one that nearly always leaves a scar, and a scar which, very often, is lifelong.” The judge condemned Gravell’s conduct as “truly wicked, and terrible,” underscoring the profound harm inflicted upon the victims.

The woman who was raped described her experience as one of extreme vulnerability and helplessness, calling the attack “unforgivable.” Meanwhile, the woman who was photographed without her consent expressed feelings of disgust and a sense of being “violated in the worst possible way.”

Gravell was sentenced to serve eight years and six months for the rape, with an additional six months added for the voyeurism offense. These sentences are to be served consecutively, ensuring a significant period of incarceration. Outside the court, Detective Inspector Dale Thomas of Dyfed-Powys Police praised the bravery of the victims and expressed hope that the court’s decision would aid their recovery. He stated, “If you are a victim of rape or sexual assault, please come forward. We have specially trained officers and partners who will support you every step of the way.”

DI Thomas also reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to pursuing justice for offenders like Gravell, who is now officially a convicted rapist. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat sexual violence and protect vulnerable individuals in the Carmarthen area and beyond.
