EX-ROYAL MARINE GARETH EVANS SENTENCED TO 14 MONTHS FOR THREATENING VIOLENCE
A former Royal Marine identified as Gareth Evans from Swansea has been convicted of threatening to kill his partner and making threats to damage property.Evans, who now works offshore on oil rigs, threatened to kill his partner during a heated argument by making a throat-slitting gesture with his hand, which a judge described as 'particularly chilling' given his military background.
He also threatened to torch the family home.
In court, it was revealed that Evans had a history of aggressive behavior and prior convictions for assault, spitting on a traffic warden, and grabbing a former partner and pushing her against a wall.
The court heard how the incidents occurred on two separate occasions, first on July 24 last year when he threatened with a slit throat and arson, and again on September 28 after returning from work, when he became aggressive, threw food on the floor, and sent threatening messages.
Evans pleaded guilty to threats to kill and damage property and was sentenced to 14 months in prison, with the possibility of serving up to half behind bars and the rest in the community.
The judge acknowledged his remorse and positive contributions while on remand, including engaging in addiction recovery programs.
