A paedophile from Swansea, Gareth Davies, has been sentenced after being caught exchanging sexual communications with a decoy account on social media, which he believed belonged to a 14-year-old girl.
Gareth Davies, aged 58 and residing in the Maritime Quarter of Swansea, engaged in conversations with the decoy from November to December 2024.
He attempted to arrange an in-person meeting with the "girl," but in December, the decoy account operators approached him before his arrest could be carried out.
Although Gareth Davies pleaded not guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor in January, he was convicted in May.
He has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Detective Sergeant Grant Phillips commented: "The comments made by Gareth Davies to the decoy were extremely concerning and it is incredibly fortunate that this was a decoy and not a real child.
It is clear that he poses a continued risk to children.
Therefore, the only suitable outcome was for him to go to prison." If you or anyone you know has been affected by such individuals, reports can be made to the Police via 101 or online resources, including Crimestoppers for anonymity.
