GARETH COX FROM DAGENHAM CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO XL BULLY CYRUS IN SHOCKING INCIDENT

Gareth Cox, a resident of Dagenham, was found guilty in 2025 of a severe animal cruelty offense involving his dog, Cyrus. The incident, which took place at Cox's residence located at 170 Manor Square, RM8 3RX, was captured on CCTV and revealed a disturbing act of violence against the young dog.

According to reports, Cox was seen repeatedly whipping Cyrus with a metal lead, inflicting significant suffering on the animal. The footage also showed Cox lifting Cyrus by his throat, an act that raised serious concerns about the dog's welfare. The police were alerted to the incident in May 2024 after a neighbor reported the abuse, prompting authorities to seize Cyrus along with a second dog from Cox's property.

Authorities confirmed that the CCTV footage was harrowing and clearly depicted the brutal attack. The police took immediate action, and both dogs were removed from Cox's care. As of now, Cyrus remains in police kennels, awaiting the outcome of legal proceedings. Given that Cyrus is an XL Bully, there is a high likelihood that he will be euthanized, a decision often made in cases involving severe cruelty and dangerous breed status.

In December 2024, Cox pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty and also admitted to violating the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 by allowing a dog deemed dangerous to be in a public place without a muzzle or lead. The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing hearing held on 6 February 2025.

During the sentencing, Cox was ordered to abstain from alcohol for 120 days, participate in up to 25 days of rehabilitation programs, and pay a total of £1,000 in kenneling costs along with £199 in court fees. Additionally, he received a two-year ban on owning or keeping dogs, which will expire in February 2027. This case highlights ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and the enforcement of laws designed to protect both animals and the public in Dagenham and beyond.
