OFFENDER GAIL HARRISON SENTENCED FOR DRUNKEN PARTNER ASSAULT
An alcoholic woman named Gail Harrison, aged 45, admitted to assaulting her partner in a drunken rage on New Year's Day.Despite having little recollection of the incident, she pleaded guilty to the assault that occurred at her flat in Berry Brow.
The incident involved her pushing the victim, causing a bust lip, after he visited her with some food and was asked to leave.
Police were called to the scene after security staff reported the assault.
The victim later told police that he did not want to proceed with the matter further, though police noted numerous previous calls involving both parties.
Harrison, who had been out of trouble since October 2013, acknowledged losing her temper when drinking, and expressed remorse, stating she shouldn't have pushed him if she caused injury.
The magistrates sentenced her to a 12-month community order including 20 rehabilitation activity days, notably involving the Together Women Project.
She was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and an additional £85 victim surcharge.
The court highlighted her need for support due to her alcohol issues, and mitigation stated she has had past alcohol treatment which was ineffective.
The sentence was credited to her guilty plea and her acknowledgment of her condition.
