EDGARS PURVINS THREATENED TO KILL EX-WIFE AFTER DRINKING BINGE
A man posted chocolate through the letterbox of his ex-wife before threatening: “Two people will die tomorrow.” Edgars Purvins downed a bottle of cider as he sent the frightening message to the mother of his two children via Facebook.He pleaded guilty to a charge of using a public electronic communications network to send a grossly offensive or menacing message.
The court heard that Purvins, 32, and his wife Baiba Purvina, had been married for 10 years but separated in October 2014.
There was a history of domestic incidents involving the couple which had been reported to police.
There had been an arrangement for Purvins to visit his ex’s home in Lockwood to see their two young children, but in recent times he had attended while intoxicated and been abusive.
On September 14, Purvins went to the family home, where Ms Purvina told him he was not welcome.
Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “He pushed some chocolate through the letterbox for the children and left.” Purvins returned to his flat in Holme Park Court, Berry Brow, and sent Ms Purvina a series of Facebook messages.
Mr Bozman said: “He made some remark when she did respond saying she should make sure she was at home when she rang police.
She queried whether he was threatening her and the response he gave was: ‘I got nothing.
Tomorrow, two people will die’.” Purvins, who is now living in Reading, admitted to having consumed a three-litre bottle of cider while sending the messages.
He had lost his job, his marriage, and contact with his two children.
His solicitor, Rachel Sharpe, explained that at the time of the offence, he was an alcoholic and found out that the complainant might have been seeing another male from her workplace, but fully accepted the messages.
In court, magistrates fined Purvins £190 and ordered him to pay £85 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
