FIAZUL ISLAM FROM KEIGHLEY SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BRADFORD CROWN COURT
In a case that has shocked the community of Keighley, Fiazul Islam, a 31-year-old man who owns a bed shop, was sentenced to a total of eleven years and three months in prison for serious sexual offenses, including two counts of rape and one count of sexual activity with a minor. The court heard that Islam, who resides on Mannville Road in Knowle Park, Keighley, committed these heinous acts against a woman after a night out in July 2010.
According to court proceedings, the victim, a woman in her twenties, had been out with colleagues at a restaurant and pub in Keighley.
After the evening, she shared a taxi with her friends and decided to walk the remaining distance home.
However, she later found herself in the defendant’s car, which had taken her away from Keighley into the nearby town of Bingley.
There, Islam parked in a secluded area, and despite her protests and crying out ‘No,’ he proceeded to rape her twice.
The woman was visibly distressed upon arriving home in the early hours, with scratches on her body, prompting her to contact the police.
Islam was not apprehended immediately.
It was over a year later, on November 11, 2011, that police arrested him following a report of a sexual offence by a 15-year-old girl.
During the investigation, authorities discovered the woman’s mobile phone at Islam’s residence, which had been lost during the attack.
Initially, Islam denied the allegations, claiming that the woman had consented to the sexual activity.
However, after a trial, he was convicted of two counts of rape.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to a separate charge of sexual activity with a child, which involved an incident where he drove a young girl to woodland, parked his car, and attempted to engage in sexual acts with her in the back seat.
The girl managed to escape and ran away from the scene.
During sentencing, Judge John Potter described Islam’s actions as a gross violation of his victims’ dignity and humanity.
The judge remarked, “You are prepared to violate and humiliate your victims to satisfy your own wicked sexual desires.” The court was also informed that Islam had no prior convictions but had shown no remorse for his actions.
A letter from Islam was presented to the court, in which he expressed regret and apologized to his victims, acknowledging his own self-described monstrous and disgusting nature.
In addition to the prison sentence, Islam was ordered to serve an additional 15 months for the sexual activity with a minor.
He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community of Keighley and beyond.
