ERIC WRIGHT FROM CROSBY AND RYDE JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LIVERPOOL

In a significant case that highlights ongoing concerns over online child exploitation, Eric Wright, a man originally from Crosby and later residing in Ryde, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in arranging sexual offences against a minor. The investigation, carried out by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, culminated in Wright's arrest and subsequent conviction at the Isle of Wight Crown Court in January 2018.

Eric Wright, aged 39 at the time, faced serious charges related to his online communications and arrangements concerning a child. The court heard that Wright had engaged in discussions and plans that facilitated sexual offences against a young individual, an act that prompted swift legal action. His criminal activities came to light following a thorough investigation that uncovered his online exchanges and intentions.

Wright, who was formerly based in Ryde but also associated with Crosby, pleaded guilty to multiple charges. Specifically, he admitted to one count of arranging the commission of a child sex offence, which resulted in a sentence of 14 months' imprisonment. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual communication with a child, each of which carried a sentence of six months, to be served concurrently. This means that the sentences for these two counts are served at the same time, effectively reducing his total time behind bars.

Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) against Wright, which will remain in effect for 21 years. This order is designed to restrict his activities and prevent further harm, reflecting the severity of his offences and the court's commitment to safeguarding children.

Wright's arrest took place on September 5, and he was formally charged the following day, September 6. His case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts in tackling online child exploitation and the ongoing risks posed by individuals who seek to abuse the digital space for harmful purposes. The court's decision sends a clear message about the consequences of such criminal behaviour and the dedication of authorities to protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
