ENRICO KORSCHE SENTENCED IN BLACKPOOL AND SWANSCOMBE FOR HORRIFIC SEX ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the communities of Blackpool and Swanscombe, Enrico Thor Korsche has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences. The 57-year-old, whose lifestyle has been described as nomadic, was convicted of abusing two young victims, with some of the abuse occurring in Swanscombe, dating back over a decade. His crimes, which included three counts of oral rape, six counts of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child, were only brought to light in 2011. The revelation came when one of the victims confided in her teaching assistant, expressing concerns that she had been abused during her childhood. This disclosure prompted a police investigation that eventually uncovered the involvement of a second victim, who also came forward to report abuse by Korsche.
At the time the allegations surfaced, Korsche had already fled the area, prompting police across the UK to issue alerts for his whereabouts. His nomadic lifestyle made him difficult to track, but he was eventually apprehended in Aberdeenshire in October of the previous year. His arrest occurred after local police officers noticed a man walking along a dual carriageway, which led to his identification. When Korsche provided his name to the officers, a check on the national database revealed that he was wanted for serious sexual offences, leading to his detention.
During the court proceedings, Korsche denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence. His defense attorney, John Fitzgerald, highlighted that Korsche was arrested approximately ten years after the offences took place and pointed out that he had no prior convictions of a similar nature. However, the judge, Michael Carroll, emphasized the severe impact of Korsche’s actions on the victims, describing the behaviour as “the most extreme and gross behaviour one can imagine.”
Despite the gravity of the crimes, the judge noted that there was insufficient evidence to impose an extended sentence for public protection. Korsche was sentenced to 16 years for the rape offences, with an additional three years to be served consecutively for the indecent assaults. He also received a one-year sentence, to run concurrently, for the charge of indecency with a child.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Steve Dingwall expressed his thoughts on the case, stating, “Korsche’s crimes spanned several years and have had a serious impact on the wellbeing of both victims. They were exposed to this depravity at a young age and have endured a tremendous amount of emotional pain.” He praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and giving evidence despite Korsche’s denial, adding, “I would like to pay tribute to them for their courage and hope they can begin to move forward with their lives now their abuser is behind bars.”
DC Dingwall also welcomed the fact that Korsche would be incarcerated for “the foreseeable future,” emphasizing the importance of justice for the victims and the community at large.
