DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 33 MONTHS FOLLOWING THREATS AND ASSAULT
A 43-year-old man from Warren Street, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, named Elliot Kershaw, has been convicted of serious domestic violence crimes. The court proceedings detailed multiple abusive incidents, including one where Kershaw pointed a kitchen knife at his partner’s throat and threatened to kill her in front of their teenage daughter.
His violence escalated over time, with an earlier attack involving kicking his partner in the face and intimidating her into not attending work, a situation later described by her colleagues as her being 'kept under house arrest.' On January 9, 2020, Kershaw reacted violently for no apparent reason, pushing his partner onto a sofa and kicking her face.
The violence continued to escalate, reaching a peak on March 29 following an evening at a rugby club, when his jealousy and paranoia resulted in a violent confrontation.
His teenage daughter stepped in to intervene, during which Kershaw threatened to kick her mother’s teeth out and to kill her, then brandished a knife against her throat and asked if she wanted him to kill her.
When police arrived, Kershaw was aggressive and confrontational, asking repeatedly, 'Why did you do this to me?' His partner described the relationship as toxic and likened their home life to incarceration.
She later moved to a different residence to ensure her safety.
Kershaw admitted guilt to charges of actual bodily harm and affray, while allegations of controlling behavior, coercion, and making threats to kill were dropped.
His criminal record includes 11 prior convictions for a total of 15 offenses.
He received a sentence of 33 months in prison—six months for assault and 27 months for affray, to be served consecutively—and is expected to serve up to half of that sentence before being released on license.
A restraining order banning him from contacting his partner for five years was also granted.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to combatting violence against women, underscoring the importance of victim support and ensuring that abuse is reported to authorities.
