TEEN MUM JAILED FOR KILLING FIVE-WEEK-OLD BABY WITH PARACETAMOL OVERDOSE
A 19-year-old mother named Ellie Jacobs has been handed a five-year prison sentence after she was found responsible for her five-week-old son Archie’s death due to a paracetamol overdose. The court, held at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday, sentenced her to five years for manslaughter and an additional 18 months for child cruelty, with both sentences to run simultaneously.
The incident happened near Milton Keynes, where Archie’s death was determined to be caused by acute paracetamol poisoning following an emergency medical report on June 5, 2020.
Ellie Jacobs admitted to causing her child's injuries, including a broken leg and foot prior to his death, and also to giving him the overdose that proved fatal.
She was arrested in October 2022 and had already pled guilty to manslaughter through unlawful act and child cruelty.
Detective Chief Inspector Will Crowther called the case “absolutely tragic” and noted that the sentencing and plea may help Archie’s family begin to recover from their grief.
