EDWARD TREZISE FROM CALLINGTON JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND VIOLENT ASSAULTS IN CORNWALL

In May 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Edward Trezise, a resident of Callington, Cornwall, who was found to be involved in serious criminal activities including child exploitation and violent assaults. The case came to light when police officers responded to an incident at Trezise’s residence in Rocklands Place, following reports that a woman had been threatened with a knife.

According to police reports, the altercation was linked to a dispute over class C drugs that Trezise had allegedly agreed to supply. The woman involved visited his home armed with a screwdriver, and Trezise responded by brandishing a knife. The police were called to the scene, and upon arresting Trezise, they conducted a search of his property. During the search, officers discovered various containers and tablets, including two marked Xanax and diazepam, amounting to a total of 1,000 tablets with an estimated street value of £1,200.

Further investigation revealed that Trezise had been involved in drug dealing, with text messages indicating he had supplied drugs to several friends, enough to sustain his own addiction. The police seized his laptop, which contained over 5,000 disturbing images and videos depicting child abuse. Trezise, upon seeing the officers take his device, reportedly said, “if you’re taking my laptop I’m going to prison,” indicating an awareness of the incriminating material stored on it.

Examination of the laptop confirmed the presence of a vast collection of indecent images of children, ranging in age from as young as two or four up to teenagers aged 13 or 14. The majority of the victims appeared to be children aged between eight and ten. The images were easily accessible to Trezise, and the device was equipped with software capable of hiding browsing history, suggesting an attempt to conceal his activities. Trezise admitted to viewing child pornography and masturbating to the images, although he claimed he did not look at children in the street in the same way. He also confessed to being addicted to Xanax.

In addition to the child exploitation charges, Trezise faced allegations of violent conduct. In April of the same year, he was involved in two separate assaults. One incident involved him punching a man in the head, while in another, he spat in the face of a person who attempted to restrain him.

At Truro Crown Court, Recorder Malcolm Gibney sentenced Trezise to two years in prison. The judge acknowledged the severity of the crimes, emphasizing that Trezise’s life had spiraled out of control. He noted that the assaults reflected a continued pattern of violent behavior. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order to restrict Trezise’s future conduct.

During sentencing, the judge highlighted the importance of deterring such crimes, stating that the possession and distribution of child abuse images contribute to a harmful industry that must be eradicated. Trezise’s acknowledgment of his addiction and his willingness to admit viewing child pornography were noted, but the court emphasized that such actions have serious societal consequences. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and violent crime in Cornwall and beyond.
