EDWARD MOIR'S SHOCKING BREACH IN ELGIN: SEX OFFENDER VIOLATES STRICT ORDER WHILE IN PRISON

Edward Moir, a man with a deeply troubling criminal history, has once again found himself at the center of a serious legal breach.

Moir, who was convicted of multiple sexual offenses, was found to have violated a stringent Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) while he was incarcerated.

This violation occurred despite the fact that he was serving time in HMP Edinburgh, a high-security prison, and the order was specifically designed to restrict his contact with certain individuals.

In 2014, Moir received a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting three vulnerable women across different locations in Scotland, including Elgin in Moray, and MacDuff in Aberdeenshire.

His crimes shocked the local communities and drew widespread condemnation.

Moir, who is now 34 years old, had previously described himself as a 'new kind of monster,' reflecting the severity of his criminal behavior and the impact it had on his victims.

The SOPO, which was imposed in January 2023, was intended to prevent Moir from re-engaging in any form of contact with potential victims.

However, between March and June 2024, authorities discovered that he had been secretly communicating with two women and a five-year-old girl via telephone.

These contacts were made despite the restrictions set out in the order, raising serious concerns about his compliance and the potential risk he posed.

Prosecutor Vish Kathuria reported that police and prison officials uncovered evidence of these illicit communications.

Moir had made numerous calls to one of the women, reaching out repeatedly, and had also contacted the young girl, which was explicitly prohibited under the terms of his SOPO.

One of the women, overwhelmed by the persistent calls, eventually blocked him after nearly thirty attempts to contact her.

The nature of these contacts has raised alarm among authorities, given Moir's criminal background and the vulnerability of his alleged victims.

Recently, Moir was transported from HMP Grampian to Glasgow to appear before the High Court, where he faced charges related to his breach of the SOPO.

During the hearing, he admitted to three counts of violating the order.

Judge Lord Colbeck expressed skepticism about the sexual nature of these breaches, indicating that the violations could have serious implications for public safety and Moir's ongoing risk to society.

The prosecution is now considering applying for an Order for Lifelong Restriction, a measure that could see Moir detained indefinitely, with a decision expected in the near future.

Moir's criminal record is extensive.

His original conviction was secured at the High Court in Aberdeen, where he was found guilty of raping three women over a period spanning from 2010 to 2013.

In addition to these offenses, he attempted to establish an inappropriate relationship in 2021 by sending a disturbing letter to another woman, soliciting her as a 'secret lover.' This act prompted her to report him to the authorities, further highlighting his pattern of predatory behavior and disregard for legal boundaries.
