SPENNYMOOR MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND SWORD ATTACK ON PARTNER
A man called Edward Arthur Mould, aged 37, was involved in a serious and prolonged assault on his partner, which was described as a sustained attack. The court heard that Mould had been staying at his former partner’s flat in Bishop Auckland for about six weeks.
According to the prosecution, Mould was dubbed a “thug and bully” and carried out violent acts including punching his partner at least 20 times, kicking and stamping on her, and threatening her with a samurai sword.
The attack started late on Friday, November 20, of the previous year.
A witness attended around 9 pm during an argument about drugs, during which Mould grabbed his partner by the throat and threatened to kill her.
Later, he punched her multiple times and forced her to the bedroom floor, where he continued to assault her.
He then drew a samurai sword from its sheath and thrust it toward her, causing her to evade the blow with her hand and suffer an injury to her finger, which was severed, and also suffered a black eye and bleeding injuries.
Mould eventually left the flat, after which he threatened to damage the property further.
Following the assault, Mould was arrested and initially denied wounding with intent but later pleaded guilty a week before his trial.
The court noted his record of 123 offences, including many violent crimes, and that he was in breach of past sentences.
The judge sentenced him to six years and eight months in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order to keep him away from the victim.
