MAN WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS JAILED FOR VIOLENT STALKING AND POLICE ASSAULTS
Dylan Parry Jones, who has documented mental health problems, was involved in multiple violent and threatening acts targeting his former partner and her family members.Court documentation revealed that Jones had a relationship with the woman that was irregular and lasted four years.
In March, police intervened at her home following a domestic incident when Jones tried to break in after she declined to visit him at his Barmouth residence, citing feelings of danger.
During the enforcement, Jones hurled a can of Vimto at his ex-partner while she was in bed.
Subsequent reports stated that Jones persisted in contacting her after the event, sending menacing messages that mentioned harming himself, her, and her mother.
He also threatened to set fire to her father’s residence.
Police detained Jones and took him to Caernarfon Police Station, where he attempted self-harm, spat at officers, and became physically aggressive.
He also smeared feces on his cell's hatch, urinated, and threw his meal against the cell walls.
The court heard Jones admit to seven separate crimes, including deliberately strangling his former partner, stalking her, assaulting three police officers, and other violent acts.
Prosecutor Richard Edwards highlighted the importance of shielding officers from offenders like Jones, especially considering his mental health conditions.
Jones received a sentence totaling 22 months: 18 months for the intentional strangulation, an additional 3 months concurrently for stalking, and 4 months each for three separate assaults on police, with some periods running simultaneously.
Her Honour Nicola Saffman acknowledged his mental health problems but stressed the importance of protecting law enforcement personnel.
His defense team pointed out his difficult background and the need for counseling, while the judge noted the presence of some positive traits but maintained that incarceration was necessary due to the seriousness of his crimes.
