ESSEX MAN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE COUNTS OF RAPE AND MORE
An Essex man, Duncan Edwards, aged 62 of Swan Grove in Chappel, Colchester, has been formally charged with 12 counts of rape along with 14 other criminal offences following an investigation into an assault that occurred in Colchester in 2014.The offences reported over the last 40 years include a variety of serious crimes such as 12 counts of rape, six counts of causing actual bodily harm, and three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a female over the age of 13.
Edwards was arrested in November 2024, questioned by police officers, and subsequently released on bail while investigations continued.
He has now been charged with 26 offences, which include a range of serious crimes: 12 counts of rape, six counts of causing actual bodily harm, three counts of sexual activity with a female over 13, procurement of sex by threats or intimidation, voyeurism, kidnapping, and involvement in the supply of heroin and cocaine.
Duncan Edwards was remanded in custody ahead of his upcoming court appearance at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court scheduled for 31 July.
The senior investigating officer, Det Insp Lydia George, emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and urged anyone with relevant information to contact authorities via the Major Incident Public Portal.
