BLACKPOOL DOCTOR AVOIDS BEING STRUCK OFF AFTER RAPE CONVICTION

2026-05-21 10:57: A physician from Blackpool has been removed from the medical register following a tribunal's determination of serious sexual misconduct, despite the absence of criminal charges.

Dr.

Aloaye Foy-Yamah, who graduated in 1997 from the University of Benin, was struck off after a hearing that concluded on May 13.

In a January 2025 tribunal, it was found that Dr.

Foy-Yamah had made sexual advances and assaulted a woman, referred to as Ms.

A, in mid-November 2018.

The tribunal also found that he raped Ms.

A at his residence around December 2-3, 2018.

It was noted that Ms.

A stayed at his home to explore her health issues, returning in November and again in December.

Evidence demonstrated that Dr.

Foy-Yamah was interested in engaging in sexual activity with her when they were alone, and that Ms.

A did not give her consent.

Although no criminal charges were filed, the tribunal considered his conduct to include elements of rape and to be disgraceful conduct outside his professional duties.

The panel concluded that his behavior represented a serious breach of medical standards, warranting erasure due to the ongoing threat to public safety and confidence.

Dr.

Foy-Yamah served at Blackpool Victoria Hospital for over 14 years and was promoted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, he showed no remorse, did not apologize to Ms.

A, and failed to recognize the gravity of his actions.

His conduct was deemed incompatible with the responsibilities of being a doctor, leading to his removal from the medical register.

--------------------------- 2025-03-29 07:24: A doctor, Dr Aloaye Foy-Yamah, who was found by a tribunal to have raped a young woman at his residence, narrowly avoided being permanently struck off the medical register over what the panel described as a "one-off" incident.

Instead, his medical license was suspended for 12 months for the attack.

The police conducted an investigation but chose not to charge him, despite the Medical Tribunal Practitioners Service (MPTS) concluding, on the balance of probabilities, that he had committed rape, which he denies.

The tribunal emphasized that the incident did not occur at his workplace, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where he was employed as a consultant, and considered it a single event in his personal life that was unlikely to recur.

The General Medical Council (GMC) had requested his license be erased permanently, but the tribunal disagreed, factoring in positive testimonials from colleagues and stating he had not "abused his position of trust".

The panel's decision has faced criticism, with campaign groups and advocates for survivors expressing outrage, arguing that it diminishes the severity of sexual violence and sets a low standard for accountability.

The victim described the assault in her police statement, recounting that Dr Foy-Yamah made sexual advances while she was lying on a sofa, attempted to kiss her, forcibly pinned her arms, and raped her, despite her efforts to resist.

Both the GMC and Dr Foy-Yamah have appealed the tribunal's decision, with the GMC expressing concern over the victim-blaming narrative and the severity of the misconduct.

Dr Foy-Yamah, who maintains his innocence, had been a consultant at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, which confirmed he is no longer employed there.

Court Outcome

12 months
