2010: KIDDERMINSTER MAN JAILED FOR MOLESTING SCHOOLGIRLS
A resident of Kidderminster named Douglas Shuck has received a prison sentence of seven and a half years after admitting to abusing three schoolgirls over a period of nearly 29 years.The court was informed that Shuck, 47 years old and residing on Park Lane, committed his offences between July 1980 and March 2008.
The court heard that he was heavily intoxicated during the times he assaulted the victims, and that he had previously attempted suicide twice.
He claimed that his abusive actions were linked to childhood trauma, according to his defense lawyer, Abigail Nixon.
However, Judge John Cavell dismissed this explanation, asserting that Shuck intentionally used children to satisfy his own sexual desires and that blaming alcohol was “ridiculous.” Shuck pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including indecent assault, engaging in sexual activities with minors, and performing sexual acts in front of children.
The victims, now in their twenties and thirties, became known during the court proceedings.
One young woman, who was 12 at the time of her abuse, confided in teachers during a school trip to France about her ordeal.
Although Shuck apologized for touching her, authorities initially dismissed the incident as an isolated case, but he continued to abuse her afterwards.
He was arrested in June of the previous year after admitting to abusing one girl, which led to the revelation of his misconduct toward the other two victims.
Nixon explained that Shuck had been battling alcoholism from a young age and was also on prescription medications for depression.
She added that when sober, Shuck claimed he could control his impulses, and expressed remorse for his actions while choosing not to fight the charges to spare the victims further trauma.
The court imposed a lifelong requirement for Shuck to register as a sex offender and issued a sexual offences prevention order, which prevents him from having contact with anyone under 18 or working around children.
The judge also emphasized the emotional harm caused and told Shuck: “They will carry the scars of what you did for the rest of their lives.
Despite your shame and regret, I am not persuaded that you fully understand the damage you've inflicted on them.”
