WOMAN JAILED FOR MURDER OF SCHOOLGIRL IN 1996
Donna Marie Brand was found guilty of the murder of 14-year-old Caroline Glachan in Renton in August 1996.She was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 17 years before eligible for parole.
The trial revealed she was involved in planning the attack alongside Robert O’Brien and Andrew Kelly.
Lord Braid described the killing as "brutal, depraved and above all wicked," and highlighted her role in the incident, including her threat to Caroline and her responsibility for her death.
The case was reopened in 2019 after authorities re-examined evidence, and Brand was ultimately convicted.
During the sentencing, Caroline’s parents expressed a mix of relief and ongoing grief, noting that true closure remains elusive.
