DONALD TAYLOR CARLISLE CHILD PORN PERVERT SENT TO PRISON
In November 2004, a disturbing case emerged from Carlisle involving Donald Taylor, a shopworker who exploited his position to indulge in heinous online activities.Taylor, employed at a Currys electrical store in Carlisle, used the personal credit card details of unsuspecting customers to purchase child pornography over the internet.
This revelation came to light during a court hearing at Carlisle’s Crown Court, where Taylor was ultimately sentenced to two years in prison for his crimes.
It was revealed that Taylor, aged 38 at the time, harbored disturbing fantasies involving the sexual abuse of young girls.
Recognizing the risks associated with using his true identity online, he took deliberate steps to conceal his identity.
To do this, he stole the identities of customers he had met through his work at Currys and used these stolen details to register on American-based adult websites that specialized in child pornography.
The court heard that Taylor had amassed nearly 500 images of children engaged in sexual acts, a collection that underscored the severity of his offending.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed several strict conditions on Taylor’s future conduct.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender and was permanently banned from working with children.
To further safeguard children from potential harm, Taylor was also prohibited from using any computer devices unless strictly for work purposes.
Even after serving his sentence, Taylor, who resides on Blackwell Road in Carlisle, will remain under close supervision for a period of three years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
It was also disclosed that Taylor had a prior conviction from 1997, when he served nine months in prison for indecently assaulting two six-year-old girls.
This history of offending highlighted a pattern of disturbing behavior.
During the current proceedings, Taylor pleaded guilty to 23 charges of possessing indecent photographs of children, along with two additional charges related to possessing other indecent images.
He also admitted to falsifying his personal details when enrolling on a pornographic website, further demonstrating his attempts to evade detection.
Judge Paul Batty QC addressed Taylor directly during sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of his actions.
The judge stated, “You clearly represent a danger to young girls.
Although you are in need of help and treatment, I would be failing in my public duty if I did not send you to custody.” The judge also condemned Taylor’s breach of trust in using the credit card details of his customers, warning that such conduct could have had serious consequences for the victims involved.
“It is a measure of how determined you were to access child pornography—and how determined you were to cover your tracks,” he added, underscoring the calculated nature of Taylor’s offending and the potential harm it posed to innocent individuals.
