DONALD GOLLAN HORRORS IN HELENSBURGH: DOG TORTURE AND MURDER SHOCK COMMUNITY
A disturbing case of animal cruelty has come to light involving Donald Gollan, a 35-year-old man from Helensburgh. Gollan was found guilty of heinous acts of abuse and violence against a defenseless dog named Archie, a 12-year-old Chihuahua. The incident took place in March 2022 at Gollan’s girlfriend’s residence in Helensburgh, a seaside town known for its scenic beauty but now marred by this tragic event.According to court reports, CCTV footage played a crucial role in establishing Gollan’s guilt. The footage clearly showed Gollan violently throwing Archie from the first-floor window of the house. Prior to this, the footage indicated that Gollan had subjected the dog to a period of torment and abuse inside the home, actions that caused significant concern and distress.
At the time of the incident, Laura Park, the owner of Archie, was away attending her son’s birthday party. Upon returning home, she was met with a horrifying scene: her house was covered in blood and excrement, a clear sign of the violence that had taken place. The discovery was deeply upsetting for her and the community alike.
An autopsy on Archie revealed the extent of the animal’s suffering. The post-mortem examination showed that the dog had suffered multiple broken bones, indicating severe physical trauma. It was also determined that Archie likely died before being thrown out of the window, with the primary cause of death being a blow to the head. This evidence underscored the brutality of the act and the cruelty inflicted upon the innocent animal.
Gollan was charged and subsequently convicted of causing Archie’s death through threatening and abusive behavior. The court heard that his actions instilled fear and alarm, not only in the dog but also in those around him. His conduct included aggressive shouting, swearing, and the destruction of household property, such as breaking a lamp. These behaviors contributed to the overall picture of a man capable of violence and intimidation.
Following the conviction, Gollan was released on bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for May 22. The case has sparked outrage among animal rights advocates and local residents, who are calling for stricter penalties for animal cruelty and more vigilant community oversight to prevent such tragedies from recurring in Helensburgh and beyond.
