BACUP MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN ON A BUS
A woman on a bus going to work was indecently assaulted by a complete stranger, Dion Wightman.
The incident happened on November 13, 2023, during a bus journey from Accrington to Blackburn.
Wightman, who was extremely intoxicated, repeatedly attempted to kiss the woman, followed her onto the bus after she refused to give him money for his fare, sat next to her, and then proceeded to grab her hand, lean against her, try to kiss her multiple times, touch her legs, lean his head on her, and bite her on the neck.
Members of the public intervened, and Wightman disembarked at Blackburn bus station.
At court, Wightman pleaded guilty to sexual assault, was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail, and was made subject to sexual offender notification requirements for seven years.
District Judge Alexandra Preston condemned his actions, stating the incident had a lasting impact on the victim, and highlighted his lack of remorse.
