DENNIS WHITE AND SYDNEY DABLES SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN ALFRETON AND SOUTH NORMANTON
In a significant case that has spanned decades, two elderly men from Derbyshire, Dennis White and Sydney Dables, have been sentenced to ten years in prison each for their involvement in the sexual abuse of a young girl. The crimes, which occurred over a four-year period, have finally been brought to justice after many years of silence and delayed reporting.In June, Dennis White, aged 74 and residing in South Normanton, was convicted at Derby Crown Court on four counts of rape. His conviction marked a pivotal moment in the case, highlighting the long-lasting impact of the abuse and the importance of justice for victims of such heinous crimes.
Similarly, Sydney Dables, aged 72 and from Alfreton, admitted to four charges of rape as well as aiding and abetting in the commission of these offenses. His admission of guilt was a crucial development in the case, which uncovered the disturbing details of the abuse that took place between 1977 and 1981. During this period, the victim was between the ages of 10 and 14, making the crimes particularly egregious and deeply damaging.
Both men have been ordered to register on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, a measure that underscores the severity of their crimes and the ongoing risk they pose to the community. The case has garnered praise from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which commended the bravery of the victim, who only recently felt able to come forward and report the abuse.
Vee Monro, a representative of the Derbyshire CPS, expressed her support for victims of sexual abuse, stating, “We hope today’s outcome encourages anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to come forward and report it, knowing that regardless of whether it took place the day before or many years before, we will take their complaint seriously.” This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of perseverance in seeking justice for victims of childhood abuse, regardless of how much time has passed.
