WOMAN GETS SUSPENDED PRISON FOR GLASSING PARTNER AFTER CHRISTMAS ROW

A woman, Denise Raymond-Jones, has been convicted of unlawfully wounding her partner in a violent domestic assault.

The incident occurred after Raymond-Jones accused her boyfriend of infidelity following a Christmas gathering.

Court proceedings revealed that she tried to extinguish a lit cigarette on her partner’s head and then glassed him in the face, leaving him with a permanent facial scar which he described as a 'constant reminder' of the attack.

The court heard that the victim suffered a 4cm-long full-thickness laceration to his jaw, which required medical treatment at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.

The assault was reportedly triggered by a heated argument where Raymond-Jones accused her partner of having an affair and demanded evidence of his whereabouts.

When her suspicions were not satisfied, she began kicking him, attempted to burn him with a cigarette, and then swung a glass of wine at his neck, causing it to smash and resulting in him bleeding profusely.

The victim said that the traumatic event has had lasting effects on his mental health and daily life.

Raymond-Jones, of Gwynfor Road, Townhill, Swansea, previously pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and has a prior conviction for two battery offences from 2016 involving violence in a bar.

She was sentenced to 15 months in prison suspended for 18 months, ordered to complete a rehabilitation course, and was subject to a 12-month restraining order banning her from contacting her ex-partner.

Her defense argued that she experienced racism in childhood and mental health issues, including unstable emotional personality disorder.

The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offence, particularly considering the domestic context, but opted for a suspended sentence to avoid destabilizing her further.

The court also heard an impact statement from the victim, stating he loved Raymond-Jones and had planned to marry her, but the assault has significantly changed his life, impacting his sleep, work, and social interactions.
