DECLAN MCKENZIE FROM ALYTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BLAIRGOWRIE

A man identified as Declan McKenzie, who resides in Alyth, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for a sexual assault that took place at a residence in Blairgowrie during July 2015.

McKenzie, who is currently employed as a self-employed electrician working under the name DM Electrical-Smart Electrical Solutions, faced a court hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. Initially, he was charged with the more serious offence of rape; however, he ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of sexual assault.

During the sentencing, Lady Rae addressed McKenzie directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions despite the plea deal. She stated, “You pled guilty to a reduced charge but this is still a serious matter.” She further pointed out the impact on the victim, noting, “When you saw your victim give evidence she was still clearly distressed some time after the event.”

Lady Rae also acknowledged McKenzie's claim of intoxication, but she made it clear that “drink is no excuse for criminal conduct,” underscoring the court’s stance on accountability regardless of alcohol consumption.
