2002: PERSHORE MAN JAILED FOR PUNCHING EX-WIFE
Dean John Davis, aged 35 and residing on High Street, received a sentence of 12 months in prison. He was brought before magistrates last Friday for sentencing after admitting to nine criminal charges.
Davis had pleaded guilty to five counts of theft, two counts of obtaining property through deception, one of common assault, and one of burglary.
It was revealed during the hearing that Davis had accumulated over 160 prior convictions.
Prosecutor Tracey Lloyd-Nesling stated that Davis stole £20 from his ex-wife Tina’s television meter, kept a benefit giro meant for his daughter Katie before cashing it at Pershore Post Office, and on three separate occasions, stole two bottles of whisky from the Co-op store in Pershore.
She also explained that Davis physically assaulted his ex-wife during an argument, slapping her around the head and punching her in the face.
Additionally, he took a giro cheque and cigarettes from an acquaintance’s home before cashing the giro.
In his defense, Simon Phillips remarked that Davis is a habitual low-level offender who has deteriorated to the point of assaulting his own wife and stealing from his own daughter.
Recorder John Denniss noted that Davis suffers from significant mental health issues and has a lengthy record of minor dishonesty.
He described his crimes against family members as “mean” actions.
