MAN FOUND GUILTY OF REPEATEDLY SEXUALLY ASSAULTING CHILD OVER 30 YEARS AGO
A man has been convicted of multiple sexual assaults on a young girl in Pershore that took place over three decades ago.Martin Cowley, of Checketts Close, Pinvin, near Pershore, was found guilty at Worcester Crown Court of more than twelve offenses against a minor.
The 70-year-old was convicted on 14 counts of indecently assaulting a girl under 16 years old between June 1994 and October 1996.
His sentencing is scheduled for August at Worcester Crown Court.
Cowley was granted bail but must report weekly to Worcester Police Station and remain at his home each night until he is sentenced.
Because the crimes occurred prior to the enactment of the 2003 Sexual Offences Act, he was charged under the earlier 1956 Sexual Offences Act, which classifies certain sexual misconduct as indecent assault.
This legislation has been replaced by the 2003 Act, which categorizes similar offenses into sexual assault, assault by penetration, and sexual activity with a child.
