DEAN DEMPSTER FROM MANCHESTER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING CHILDREN IN OLDHAM
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Dean Dempster, a 35-year-old former police officer from Manchester, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of children.Dempster’s criminal conduct came to light after a series of investigations that revealed disturbing details about his actions while serving as a response officer in Oldham.
Earlier this year, Dempster was dismissed from the police force following an accelerated misconduct hearing convened by the Chief Constable.
The hearing was prompted by allegations that he had sexually assaulted a child while on duty.
Dempster had previously admitted to six counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of misconduct in public office, which further compounded the severity of his offenses.
The incident in question occurred on December 29, 2023, during a response to a domestic disturbance involving an adult and children.
During the course of the response, Dempster was tasked with taking a statement from a six-year-old girl.
It was during this interaction, away from his colleagues, that he committed the sexual assault, an act that has deeply shocked the community and raised serious concerns about the conduct of law enforcement officers.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged later that evening, prompting an immediate investigation.
The next morning, Dempster returned to duty but was confronted by his supervisor regarding the allegations.
The police swiftly arrested him in Oldham, and the case was handed over to the Professional Standards Directorate, which worked diligently under the oversight of the Independent Office for Police Conduct to uncover any further evidence of misconduct.
As part of the investigation, authorities examined Dempster’s electronic devices.
The review uncovered additional serious offenses, including the creation and possession of indecent images of children.
Dempster pleaded guilty to six counts related to these images, including two of the most serious Category A images.
Further scrutiny of his mobile phone revealed images taken from his body-worn camera during the December incident, depicting a second clothed child, as well as images of another clothed child from a separate incident dating back to 2022.
The families of the victims have been kept informed and updated throughout the investigation process.
In addition to the charges related to indecent images, Dempster admitted to two counts of Misconduct in a Public Office.
These charges stemmed from his abuse of the authority granted to him as a police officer and his misuse of footage captured for policing purposes for his own perverse gratification.
Extensive review of Dempster’s previous deployments within the force revealed no further evidence of criminal behavior.
Nevertheless, authorities have urged anyone affected by this case to come forward, assuring that all concerns will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.
Following his arrest and subsequent guilty pleas, Dempster was dismissed from the police force in May 2024, with the force taking swift action to bar him from further policing activities.
He has been sentenced to serve nine years in prison, with an additional five years on license following his release, and has been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
The case has highlighted serious issues regarding misconduct and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from abuse by those entrusted with authority.
