METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICER DISMISSED FOR STALKING MISCONDUCT
A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed immediately following a proven case of gross misconduct related to stalking allegations.
Dean Cupit, who was previously assigned to South Area Command, appeared in Guildford Crown Court on December 8.
He admitted guilt to a Section 2A offence under the Protection from Harassment Act 1979, which involved stalking behaviors occurring between April and October 2019.
On February 9, the court sentenced Cupit to an 18-month community order, which included 25 days of rehabilitation focused on stalking and harassment issues, 100 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £500 in court costs along with a £95 victim surcharge.
Prior to these proceedings, Cupit had been restricted to limited duties since last month while disciplinary actions were considered.
A special hearing convened on Wednesday, overseen by Assistant Commissioner Helen Ball, confirmed the misconduct as gross, resulting in the immediate termination of his employment without notice.
