According to court reports, Campbell had engaged in a series of inappropriate online interactions with a profile he believed belonged to a 13-year-old girl.
Over time, he became increasingly sexual in his messages, sending explicit images of himself and his private parts, and expressing a desire to engage in sexual activities with her.
It was later revealed that the girl was not a minor at all but an adult who was pretending to be a child as part of an online sting operation.
The court was informed that Campbell had actively groomed the profile, believing he was communicating with a young girl.
His actions included sending explicit photographs and making clear his intentions to pursue sexual contact.
The case underscores the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilant community and law enforcement efforts to protect minors from exploitation.
Despite the severity of his actions, Dean Campbell was not sentenced to prison.
Instead, he received a three-year community order, which requires him to adhere to specific conditions set by the court.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of five years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will last for five years.
As part of his rehabilitation, Campbell was also mandated to participate in a 30-day sex offenders' rehabilitation programme, aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
