MAN PUNCHED AND HEADBUTTED FORMER PARTNER
Dawid Grzywinski was found waiting outside a residence at night with the intent to assault the mother of his children, violating a two-year restraining order and a one-year community order that had been previously imposed for criminal damage and two counts of battery. The 32-year-old resident of Oak Avenue in Manningham, Bradford, admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm on January 12, as well as breaching the court orders issued two months prior.
During the hearing at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, Prosecutor Heather Gilmore detailed that Grzywinski had hidden in the woman’s garden, waiting for her to return home, which she did around 9 pm after visiting a friend.
According to reports, Grzywinski assaulted her by punching her twice in the face and headbutting her twice before forcing entry into her house.
Terrified, she fled the scene but was followed outside and assaulted again with punches.
Throughout the attack, Grzywinski repeatedly threatened to kill her, even after police arrived at the scene.
The victim sustained facial swelling and sore ribs from the assault, leading her to fear returning home in case he was waiting for her again.
Previously, in November, Grzywinski received a community order for crimes including battery against his mother and the woman, as well as damaging a television.
On that occasion, he appeared intoxicated at the woman’s address, pushed his mother to the ground, and kicked the woman.
In mitigation, Jo Shepherd stated that Grzywinski fully admitted the charges to police and pled guilty at the earliest opportunity.
She added he was homeless and struggling with alcohol addiction.
He was subsequently remanded in custody, aware that a prison sentence was imminent.
Judge Jonathan Rose remarked that the defendant demonstrated a concerning tendency toward violence against women.
The judge noted that Grzywinski had consumed about a litre of vodka and two bottles of wine prior to the incident.
He described the attack as ‘drunken and cowardly,’ carried out shortly after serving time for battery on the same woman.
The court sentenced him to 16 months in prison, plus an additional three months to run consecutively for breaching the community order.
A new restraining order was also issued against him, with no specified end date.
