BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING EX-PARTNER AND COERCIVE CONTROL
A man named Daanyaal Nawaz, who lives in Manningham, has received a 22-month prison sentence for engaging in a pattern of controlling, coercive, and violent conduct toward his former partner. The court was informed that Nawaz’s actions, which took place over several weeks earlier this year, were intended to shame and degrade the woman.
During one arrest, Nawaz forcibly entered her residence by breaking a lock, assaulted her by punching her and spitting at her, and used threatening language, claiming he was “going to be on an M-charge,” which the woman understood as an accusation of murder.
The attack lasted approximately 30 minutes, after which Nawaz fled but was subsequently detained by police for being disruptive and uncooperative.
He entered her property two more times—once while under the influence of drugs and alcohol—and on another occasion, physically restrained her by grabbing her neck and shouting about a murder charge, which caused her vision to impair with dots and resulted in bruises and marks on her face.
Nawaz has a prior record of 17 convictions, including criminal damage, racist harassment, and breaching orders.
The court emphasized that Nawaz’s behavior was aimed at intimidating and humiliating his victim, and he was remanded to serve his sentence in custody.
